  • Fascial Stretch Therapy (F.S.T.)- is a type of stretching that targets not only the muscles, but the fascia, connective tissue, bones, and joints. FST also targets the entire joint and joint capsule using traction to remove restrictions during movement. The great thing about FST is that there is zero pain or discomfort involved, allowing a relaxed movement. FST assists in finding imbalances, as well as the source of the imbalances while using breathing technique to help. The therapist will first warm up the joints and muscles with undulating stretching to maximize blood flow. The therapist then uses certified techniques of movement, traction, modified PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) and synchronized breathing to relax and release the muscle tension. Lastly, FST will stretch the entire body, following a logical anatomical order to lengthen muscle, increase range of motion and improve flexibility.

  • Cupping- placing special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, bloodflow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

I train with Betty on occasion and I also do Crossfit regularly. I just completed a Crossfit competition and my body was wrecked. I was having chronic pain in my shoulder, knees and hips.  Betty’s stretching techniques are awesome and for the first time I am sleeping and waking without pain.  She was careful to understand all of my issues before we started and is obviously very conscientious.  The stretching really mobilizes the joint and muscles and it works! Strongly recommend her services.

After enduring months of pain I was diagnosed with hip impingement syndrome and needed a new hip.  I was told by the Doctor that if I wanted to keep up with my athletic lifestyle that I should prolong the surgery and endure the pain as long as I was able to, because after a hip replacement I wouldn't be able to continue the things that I loved to do like running, weight lifting , and biking. Me being the stubborn person I am, I decided to take her advice, and made Aleve my new best friend. 

 

After months of needing assistance to do simple things like tying my own shoe, I started searching for some alternative means of pain relief and hopefully some more mobilty. A friend suggested that I try Fascial Stretching Therapy that is offered at G.P.A., so I gave Betty a call. Since working with Betty my mobility has increased with minimal pain, and I can even tie my shoe again without assistance. I highly recommend G.P.A.. I know my hip problem is still there, but now at least its more manageable.
